1. Why Stay at a Disney World Resort?

First things first: is it worthwhile staying at a Disney World resort at all?

This is the classic "on-property vs. off-property" debate, and while it's true that Orlando has a lot of hotel options, there are some major built-in perks to staying in the heart of the magic.

Here's how I rank the biggest benefits:

Proximity & Transportation

The number one advantage of staying on-property is the convenience of being close to your home base, especially at the beginning and end of your park day. Disney buses, boats, monorails, and the Skyliner can get you just about anywhere without needing a rental car. When you're glowing from the excitement of a fireworks finale, your kid is falling asleep on your shoulder, and you're really looking forward to taking off your shoes, it’s a lot easier to hop on a shuttle headed straight to your resort than to navigate the parking lot and drive half an hour back to an off-property hotel in the dark.

From early starts to midday breaks to late-night returns, location matters – and Disney’s got you covered.

Resort Stay Perks

Disney offers several perks that are exclusive to on-property guests – big helpers when it comes to saving time, scoring hard-to-get experiences, and making the most of every day.

Water Park admission – Splash into fun right away, with free admission to one of Disney water parks on your arrival day! An especially great perk if you're arriving early, this gives free waterslides and lazy rivers instead spending a park ticket on a partial day.

Early Entry – Get any of the four theme parks 30 minutes before off-site guests, every day. This can mean the difference between walking right onto a big-name ride, or waiting in a long queue (or paying for Lightning Lane) later on.

Advance Dining Reservations – On-property guests can book dining for their entire stay (up to 10 days’ worth!) starting 60 days before check-in. It’s a huge advantage when you’re trying to snag reservations at in-demand restaurants like Cinderella’s Royal Table, ’Ohana, or GEO82.

Advance Lightning Lane Reservations – Similarly, on-property guests can book Lightning Lane reservations for theme park shows and attractions up to 7 days before arrival – instead of 3 days before for all other guests. If you want the best shot at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Tron Lightcycle / Run, this early access matters.

Extended Evening Hours – Guests staying at Deluxe Resorts or Deluxe Villas also get access to extended evening hours on select nights, with lower crowds and extra time to explore the parks after dark.

Theming & Atmosphere

For fans of immersive storytelling, this one's huge! Every Disney World resort has a unique theme and atmosphere – lush tropical garden, grand Victorian elegance, bright Caribbean island – and the attention to detail is unmatched.

Character meet-and-greets, kid-friendly activities, themed architecture and landscaping, even scent and soundtrack choices are all designed to create that feeling of total immersion. It’s the Disney Bubble, and you’re in it from the moment you wake up to the moment you fall asleep. That experience, flowing from the resort to the parks and back again, is just something you can't get from a nearby Marriott or Holiday Inn.

So...Is It Worth It?

That’s a question only you can answer—because every family travels differently, and what matters most depends on how you like to vacation.

There are absolutely valid reasons to stay off-property. Maybe you’re planning to take day trips around the area, splitting your time with Universal, or coordinating a big family gathering that works best with a large rental home.

But for most Disney trips, here’s what staying on-property really boils down to: it isn’t just about convenience – it’s about connection. You’re closer to the parks, wrapped in the magic, and supported by little touches that make everything smoother. Whether it’s getting into the parks early, hopping on a boat back to your room, or spotting characters at your resort, the Disney difference shows up in the details. For a trip that feels cohesive, immersive, and yes, a little easier, staying on-site makes a real impact.

2. Understanding Disney World Resort Categories

With all those perks in mind, how do you figure out which Disney resort is right for you? Let's start by discussing how Disney thinks about their resorts – and how that can affect where you want to stay.

Walt Disney World resorts are grouped into three main categories: Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. Each offers a different combination of atmosphere, amenities, and price point. Whether you’re planning your first visit or your fifth, understanding what each category offers is the first step to finding the perfect fit for you.

Value Resorts

Bright, bold, and budget-friendly. Value resorts are perfect for families who want fun, themed environments without breaking the bank. You’ll get access to themed pools, food courts with quick-service dining, and all the standard on-property perks like Early Entry and free transportation.

Value Resorts include:

Great for: families with young kids, guests who plan to spend all day in the parks (a.k.a. the "park commando" crowd), or anyone looking to maximize value without sacrificing the Disney bubble.

Moderate Resorts

A great balance of atmosphere and amenities. Moderate resorts offer deeper theming, more relaxed grounds, and added touches like table-service restaurants, larger rooms, and quiet pools. They’re ideal if you want a little more comfort and room to breathe without going full Deluxe.

Moderate Resorts include:

Great for: guests who want to enjoy both park days and downtime, or who prioritize resort aesthetics and food variety.

Deluxe Resorts & Villas

The most immersive, luxurious stays on Disney property. Expect premium locations (like walking distance to a theme park), signature dining, upgraded rooms, and top-tier amenities like spas, lounges, and concierge-level service.

Deluxe Resorts include:

Deluxe Villas are very similar to the Deluxe Resorts, and often even share the same grounds, but technically they're a separate category. Deluxe Villas are built as part of the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) system, but anyone can book them. Villas are set up more like vacation condos: they include studios, 1- to 3-bedroom suites, and may include full kitchens and in-room laundry (depending on size). Most are located within or adjacent to Deluxe Resorts, and guests staying in Villas enjoy all the same amenities as the main resort.

Deluxe Villas include:

Great for: milestone trips, park proximity, food lovers, or anyone who wants to fully lean into the magic from check-in to check-out.

Now that you’ve got the lay of the land, the next step is figuring out which Disney World resort fits your travel style. Each one offers something special, from budget-friendly theming to immersive luxury, and the right choice isn’t about the fanciest option – it’s about the one that matches your priorities. So let’s take a closer look at what it’s really like to stay at each one, starting with the colorful, energy-filled world of Disney’s Value Resorts.

3. Bold, Bright, Budget Friendly: Disney's Value Resorts

As we mentioned above, Value Resorts pack big personality into a smaller price tag. With playful themes, larger-than-life icons, and plenty of kid-friendly energy, these resorts are ideal for families who plan to spend most of their time in the parks, but still want to stay in the magic. They’re colorful, convenient, and full of fun touches that keep the Disney vibes going long after the fireworks end.

So if you’re looking for maximum fun at a minimum price, the Value Resorts deliver the magic, without blowing the budget. Let’s take a look at what each one brings to the table.

Disney's All-Star Movies Resort

Big fun, bold colors, and a love letter to Disney film favorites

Disney World Resort: All Star Movies pool
Disney World Resort: All Star Movies Courtyard

At All-Star Movies, Disney animation takes center stage – literally. Larger-than-life statues of beloved characters like Woody, Buzz, Pongo, and Sorcerer Mickey welcome you into a resort that’s all about classic movie magic. This is the kind of place where kids squeal with delight as they race past giant dalmatians or pose for pictures with their Toy Story heroes, and where grown-ups can soak in the nostalgia, too.

Accommodations

Rooms here are cheerful and compact, with two queen beds (or one king), movie-themed artwork, and playful pops of color. Each section of the resort is themed to a different Disney classic – Fantasia, 101 Dalmatians, The Mighty Ducks, The Love Bug, and Toy Story – and while the layout is motel-style, the theming more than makes up for it.

Dining

The World Premiere Food Court is a casual, cafeteria-style setup that covers the basics: burgers, pizza, chicken tenders, and a few rotating entrees that nod toward variety. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s reliably kid-friendly, with lots of space and quick service.

Disney World Resort: All Star Movies entrance
Disney World Resort: All Star Movies Room View
Recreation & Amenities

The Fantasia-themed main pool, with Sorcerer Mickey commanding the water, sets the tone for big, splashy fun. A second pool in the Mighty Ducks section offers a quieter option if you’re looking for something a little more low-key. There’s also a playground, an arcade, and poolside games and trivia hosted by Cast Members throughout the day.

Transportation

Bus service is the only transportation option here, but it’s frequent and easy to use. Buses run to all four theme parks, plus Disney Springs and the water parks.

Best For

Families with younger kids who are excited by bold visuals and familiar characters.

Standout Feature

The theming is truly front and center here. If your kid lights up at the sight of Woody or runs toward a giant dalmatian with arms wide open, this is the Value Resort that will deliver the most instant joy.

Disney's All-Star Music Resort

Bright colors, bold themes, and a whole lot of rhythm

Disney World Resort: All Star Music Courtyard
Disney World Resort: Al Star Music Pool

If your family breaks into spontaneous dance parties or has a playlist for every occasion, All-Star Music might be your perfect match. With themed sections celebrating musical genres from jazz and calypso to country and rock ‘n’ roll, this resort marches to the beat of its own very kid-friendly drum. Think giant guitars, trombone staircases, and music notes large enough to climb (but probably don’t).

Accommodations

Standard rooms sleep up to four with two queen beds (or one king) and feature colorful, no-frills decor that leans into the musical theme. But the standout option here is the family suite: it sleeps up to six guests with a queen bed, two pull-down beds, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette. For families who want space and value, it’s a major win.

Dining

Intermission Food Court serves all the hits: Mickey waffles, pasta, flatbreads, and baked goods you can grab on the go. There’s nothing fancy, but the variety works well for families, and mobile ordering keeps the process quick and easy.

Disney World Resort: All Star Music Entrance
Disney World Resort: All Star Music Lobby
Recreation & Amenities

The guitar-shaped main pool brings the energy, while the piano-shaped quiet pool in the jazz section offers a more relaxed option. Daily poolside activities add extra fun, and an indoor arcade gives kids a chance to cool off and play between park visits.

Transportation

Like its sister All-Stars, All-Star Music offers complimentary bus service to all Disney parks and destinations.

Best For

Families who need a suite without Deluxe pricing, or anyone whose travel soundtrack includes equal parts Disney singalongs and Top 40 hits.

Standout Feature

Those family suites. The spacious, multi-room options come at a price that’s still solidly budget-friendly.

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort

High energy, big visuals, and nonstop team spirit

Disney World Resort: All Star Sports Pool
Disney World Resort: All Star Sports Courtyard

If your crew is all about motion – racing to rope drop, sprinting to the pool, or an impromptu game of tag in the courtyard – All-Star Sports is ready to play. This resort leans fully into the theme, with oversized football helmets, surfboards, and tennis rackets turning the entire resort into a kid-friendly stadium.

Accommodations

Rooms are simple and straightforward, with two queen beds (or one king) and sport-themed decor. Sections include baseball, football, tennis, basketball, and surfing, each with bright colors and giant athletic props that double as playground eye candy. No suites here, so rooms are best for parties of four or fewer.

Dining

End Zone Food Court is your go-to for quick, casual meals. Standard fare like pizza, burgers, and build-your-own bowls keep things moving fast, and mobile order makes the process easier during peak times.

Disney World Resort: All Star Sports Entrance
Disney World Resort: All Star Sports Center
Recreation & Amenities

The Surfboard Bay Pool is the resort’s energetic heart, with lots of splash space and regular poolside games. The baseball-themed Grand Slam Pool offers a quieter (but still fun) retreat. There’s also an arcade, playground, and plenty of space to burn off extra energy.

Transportation

Bus transportation is the only option here, with dedicated shuttles to and from each park. It’s reliable, but during peak times, you may share with the other All-Star resorts.

Best For

Active kids, sports fans, and families who want the most affordable Disney stay without losing the energy and theming that make staying on property feel special.

Standout Feature

This resort is often the lowest priced option on Disney property, making it a go-to for budget-focused travelers who still want the full Disney bubble experience.

Disney's Art of Animation Resort

Vibrant, immersive, and literally full of character

Disney World Resort: Art of Animation Pool
Disney World Resort: Art of Animation Room View

Art of Animation isn’t just themed—it’s storyboarded. This resort is a full-on tribute to the art and heart of Disney and Pixar animation, and it shows in every oversized sculpture, every color-splashed courtyard, and every detail of the family suites. From a walk through the Elephant Graveyard with Scar to racing along with Lightning McQueen, this resort is a total love letter to some of Disney’s most beloved films.

Accommodations

Art of Animation offers two room types: standard rooms themed to The Little Mermaid, and spacious family suites themed to Finding Nemo, The Lion King, and Cars. The suites sleep up to six, with a separate bedroom, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette, perfect for longer stays or families who like a little space to spread out. The theming is deep, vivid, and immediately kid-approved.

Dining

Landscape of Flavors is one of the better quick-service food courts in the Value category, offering more than just pizza and chicken tenders (though those are here too). You’ll find customizable bowls, some international flavors, and excellent desserts. The menu rotates more often than the other All-Stars, which is a nice touch for multi-day stays.

Disney World Resort: Art of Animation Family Suite Bathroom
Disney World Resort: Art of Animation Entrance
Recreation & Amenities

The Big Blue Pool (modeled after Finding Nemo) is the largest pool on Disney property and comes with underwater speakers(!). There are also themed play areas, two additional pools, and nightly outdoor movies. You’ll also find photo ops and immersive elements scattered throughout the courtyards, perfect for mid-day adventures or evening strolls.

Transportation

Here’s where Art of Animation really pulls ahead: it shares a Disney Skyliner station with Pop Century, offering direct access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. That added transportation flexibility makes a huge difference for guests who don’t want to rely solely on buses.

Best For

Families with younger kids who want immersive theming and extra space, or anyone who’s ever wished they could live inside a Pixar movie.

Standout Feature

The family suites here are unmatched for style, space, and kid appeal. Add in the Skyliner access and that underwater-music pool, and it’s a Value resort that really punches above its weight.

Disney's Pop Century Resort

Color, nostalgia, Skyliner convenience, and fan-favorite fun

Disney World Resort: Pop Century Courtyard
Disney World Resort: Pop Century Entrance

Pop Century is where bold design meets big-time throwbacks. Each section of the resort is themed to a different decade, from the 1950s to the 1990s, complete with giant yo-yos, Rubik’s cubes, rollerblades, and Play-Doh cans towering over the buildings. It’s loud in the best way, and beloved for its mix of cheerful theming and grown-up practicality.

Accommodations

Pop Century’s rooms were recently refurbished and are now among the most efficient and comfortable in the Value category. Each room has a queen bed and a Murphy-style pull-down bed that doubles as a table when tucked away. Sleek laminate floors, crisp white bedding, and plenty of outlets make these rooms feel more modern hotel than motel, and they’re especially great for couples, solo travelers, or families of four.

Dining

Everything POP Food Court is your hub for hearty, classic theme park fare. Burgers, waffles, pasta, and desserts all make an appearance, and mobile ordering keeps things streamlined. Don’t skip the tie-dye cheesecake: it’s practically a Pop Century rite of passage.

Disney World Resort: Pop Century Lobby
Disney World Resort: Pop Century Room View
Recreation & Amenities

There are three pools, including the Hippy Dippy Pool (complete with flower-shaped water jets) and smaller quiet pools in the 1950s and 1990s sections. You’ll also find fun photo ops and walking trails across Generation Gap Bridge to Art of Animation, where you can explore even more theming (and even more photo ops).

Transportation

Here’s Pop’s ace in the hole: the Disney Skyliner station that it shares with Art of Animation. You can glide to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios via gondola, skipping the bus entirely. For Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs, you’ll still take Disney buses.

Best For

Guests who want colorful theming and efficient rooms, with the added convenience of the Skyliner – at a great price point.

Standout Feature

Skyliner access is a game-changer, especially for rope-dropping or park-hopping. Pop and Art of Animation share that perk, and it makes a big difference in your daily rhythm.

4. Lush, Lively, Layered: Disney's Moderate Resorts

Moderate Resorts strike a balance between atmosphere and affordability. With scenic grounds, immersive theming, and more dining and recreation options than their Value counterparts, these resorts are perfect for travelers who want to slow down between park days. Think tranquil pathways, waterslides at the pool, and just enough extra space to breathe.

If you’re looking for a resort that feels like a true retreat after a day in the parks (without going full Deluxe), Moderate Resorts hit a sweet spot. These resorts offer a little more space, a little more style, and a whole lot of atmosphere. Let’s explore what each one has to offer.

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

Colorful villages, island vibes, and a central hub for Skyliner magic

Disney World Resort: Caribbean Beach Resort Entrance
Disney World Resort: Caribbean Beach Resort Pool

Caribbean Beach is pure vacation energy. Spread out around the shores of a 45-acre lake, this resort brings a relaxed island feel to your Disney stay, complete with white sand beaches, swaying hammocks, pastel-colored buildings, and steel drum music floating through the air. It’s one of the most sprawling resorts on property, but it’s also one of the most transport-connected, serving as the central hub for the Disney Skyliner.

Accommodations

Rooms are divided among five “island” villages – Aruba, Jamaica, Martinique, Barbados, and Trinidad – each with its own set of quiet pools and tropical landscaping. Standard rooms sleep up to 4 or 5 guests, and there are also newly-renovated Little Mermaid themed rooms that include space-saving pulldown beds.

Dining

The resort’s main lobby and dining area, Old Port Royale, houses Centertown Market, which serves up island-inspired quick service eats like jerk chicken bowls and Cuban sandwiches, alongside familiar fare. Sebastian’s Bistro is a fantastic example of the upgraded dining in the Moderate category: they offer family-style table-service dining with a Caribbean twist. Think slow-cooked pork with mango chutney, and buttery house-baked rolls with guava butter, and more – a standout restaurant that's a great destination even if you're not staying here.

Disney World Resort: Caribbean Beach Resort Skyliner
Disney World Resort: Caribbean Beach Resort Shoreline View
Recreation & Amenities

The Fuentes del Morro pool is a stunner – a Spanish fort-themed splash zone with two waterslides, water cannons, and a shipwreck-style kids’ area. You’ll also find hammocks by the lake, beach volleyball, bike rentals, and quiet pools in every village. The resort’s size means more walking, but also more places to explore.

Transportation

Caribbean Beach is the main transfer station for the Disney Skyliner, giving you direct access to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Riviera guests need to transfer here to get to Hollywood Studios, and Art of Animation and Pop Century guests transfer here for both. Buses serve the remaining parks and Disney Springs, with multiple stops throughout the resort.

Best For

Guests who want tropical atmosphere, great pool time, and the convenience of the Skyliner, without the Deluxe price tag.

Standout Feature

Caribbean Beach is the only Resort that connects directly to two parks via Skyliner. That, combined with the island charm and family-friendly amenities, makes it a strong favorite for park-hopping planners.

Disney's Coronado Springs Resort

A unique blend of Spanish charm, Southwestern flair, and a luxe modern artsy vibe

Disney World Resort: Coronado Springs Tower
Disney World Resort: Coronado Springs Pool

Coronado Springs is a Moderate Resort that seriously punches above its weight. Originally inspired by the cultures of Mexico, Spain, and the American Southwest, this sprawling lakeside property blends classic Disney theming with unexpected sophistication. However, the relatively recent addition of the Gran Destino Tower, serving as main lobby and hub for a convention center, transformed the resort into something more than mid-tier – it feels like a Deluxe in disguise.

Accommodations

Rooms are spread across two distinct styles. The original “village” areas – Casitas, Ranchos, and Cabanas – are spread around the central lake, and offer colorful, warm-toned rooms with exterior entrances, classic theming, and proximity to pools and paths. But the Gran Destino Tower is the showstopper: sleek, stylish hotel-style rooms with interior corridors, smart TVs, upscale fixtures, and elevated views. The tower’s soaring lobby, inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney’s animated short Destino, adds a sense of surreal luxury you won’t find anywhere else. The tower also hosts the only Moderate accommodations that have a club-level option; this includes concierge service and access to the Chronos Club.

Dining

Coronado is a dream for food-lovers. You’ll find rooftop fine dining at Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood, waterside cocktails and globally inspired plates at Three Bridges Bar & Grill, and Latin American flavors at Maya Grill. Even the quick service at El Mercado de Coronado goes beyond the basics. This is the only Moderate where “where should we eat?” is a genuine dilemma, in the best way.

Disney World Resort: Coronado Springs Shoreline
Disney World Resort: Coronado Springs Toledo Restaurant
Recreation & Amenities

An island in the center of the lake hosts the Dig Site, a recreation area home to The Lost City of Cibola pool. This area is a big hit with families, thanks to its massive Mayan pyramid, 123-foot-long jaguar waterslide, and the largest hot tub on Disney property. You’ll also find three quiet pools amongst the other neighborhoods, a playground, fitness center, and even concierge-level rooms. Whether you want to unwind or keep the energy high, there’s space for both.

Transportation

Bus transportation is available to all parks and Disney Springs. While there’s no Skyliner here, the resort’s size and layout means multiple bus stops for convenience.

Best For

Families who want upgraded amenities and a more polished feel, a lot of dining options, and some amazing spots for photos.

Standout Feature

Gran Destino Tower. With its elegant rooms, jaw-dropping lobby, and indoor hallways, it delivers a true Deluxe experience at a Moderate price. It’s not just "good for a Moderate;" it’s genuinely excellent, full stop.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Charming, compact, and jazzed up with New Orleans flair

Disney World Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter Lobby
Disney World Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter Courtyard

The first of Port Orleans' two neighboring resorts, at French Quarter you can step onto cobblestone streets, walk underneath wrought-iron balconies, and follow the sound of jazz down the lantern-lit pathways. This is Disney’s most intimate Moderate resort, and it oozes charm from every corner. Inspired by the historic heart of New Orleans, this resort trades sprawl for atmosphere and wraps its guests in Mardi Gras whimsy and Southern hospitality.

Accommodations

French Quarter is the smallest of the Moderates, and that’s its secret weapon. All rooms are within easy walking distance of the lobby, pool, and bus stops. Rooms sleep up to four, with two queen beds (or one king), and feature subtle fleur-de-lis details and rich jewel tones that nod to the region’s French Quarter elegance without being over the top.

Dining

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory offers quick-service meals with a Cajun-Creole twist, with specialties including shrimp and grits, jambalaya, beignets, and po’boys. You’ll also find grab-and-go options, and the adjacent Scat Cat’s Club serves up cocktails and live jazz on select evenings. And yes, the Mickey-shaped beignets here are legendary.

Disney World Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter Room View
Disney World Resort: Port Orleans French Quarter Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The Doubloon Lagoon pool is a favorite with kids, thanks to its massive sea serpent waterslide (his name is Scales, by the way), splash area, and jazz-themed décor. There’s also a playground, arcade, and movies under the stars. Plus, guests here can walk over to Riverside to enjoy even more amenities and dining options.

Transportation

Buses service all four parks, but the biggest bonus is the charming boat transportation that floats you down the Sassagoula River straight to Disney Springs. It’s peaceful, picturesque, and a perfect route to a shopping or dining night out.

Best For

Guests who want a quieter, more romantic resort feel without sacrificing theming—or anyone who values a compact layout with minimal walking.

Standout Feature

French Quarter’s size and vibe make it uniquely cozy and easy to navigate. It’s the only Moderate with a single bus stop and that magical boat ride to Disney Springs.

Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside

Southern charm, scenic strolls, and the gentle rhythm of the river

Disney World Resort: Port Orleans Riverside Courtyard
Disney World Resort: Port Orleans Riverside Royal Suite

Port Orleans – Riverside is intended to feel like a dreamy Southern painting: moss-draped oaks, winding waterways, bayou cottages, and lantern-lit paths. It’s one of Disney’s most picturesque Moderate resorts, and its hushed atmosphere makes it feel worlds away from the theme park hustle.

That said, the antebellum-inspired elements, especially in the Magnolia Bend section, may not be everyone’s cup of tea. For some, the white-columned mansions evoke a kind of romantic charm; for others, the aesthetic carries heavier historical associations. Disney’s focus here is on elegance and fairytale flourishes (especially in the Royal Guest Rooms), but it’s worth knowing what kind of styling to expect.

Accommodations

Rooms here are split between two theming styles: Magnolia Bend, with its romanticized Southern mansion design (which, as noted, can be fraught), and Alligator Bayou, a more rustic, woodsy area with cozy cabin vibes. Standard rooms sleep four, but some Bayou rooms include a fifth sleeper as a pull-down bed, perfect for younger kids. Riverside is also home to the popular Royal Guest Rooms, where Princess Tiana fans can sleep among magical touches and royal character details throughout.

Dining

Riverside Mill Food Court offers hearty Southern-style options like jambalaya, carved meats, and cinnamon rolls the size of your head. For table-service dining, Boatwright’s Dining Hall serves up home-style favorites like shrimp and grits or prime rib in a cozy, shipyard-themed setting. You can also stroll over to French Quarter to sample their beignets and enjoy Scat Cat’s Club for drinks and live jazz.

Disney World Resort: Port Orleans Riverside Room View
Disney World Resort: Port Orleans Riverside Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The Ol’ Man Island pool complex is a rustic retreat, complete with a large main pool, a 95-foot waterslide, a hot tub, and a playground. You’ll also find quiet pools tucked into each section of the resort. Horse-drawn carriage rides, fishing on the dock, bike rentals, and movies under the stars round out the leisurely offerings.

Transportation

Bus service is available to all parks and Disney Springs, with multiple stops throughout the resort. You’ll also have access to the Sassagoula River boat service, which offers a relaxing ride straight to Disney Springs.

Best For

Families needing a room that sleeps five, fans of quieter stays with scenic views, or anyone who wants a Moderate resort with both romantic touches and family-friendly flexibility.

Standout Feature

The peaceful, walkable grounds and wide range of room styles, including those charming Royal Rooms, make Riverside feel like a hidden world.

The Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort

Outdoorsy charm, wide-open space, and a whole different kind of Disney magic

Disney World Resort: Fort Wilderness Campgrounds Forest
Disney World Resort: Fort Wilderness Campgrounds Fireworks View

While not technically classified as a Moderate, if your dream vacation includes a campfire under the stars, a golf cart ride through the woods, or waking up to the sound of birds instead of bus traffic, Fort Wilderness might be your unexpected perfect match. Nestled among 750 acres of pine and cypress forest, the Campsites at Fort Wilderness offer a one-of-a-kind Disney experience that feels more like a national park than a theme park resort.

Accommodations

The campsites come in several varieties, from tent-friendly pads to full hook-up sites for large RVs. Each site includes water, electricity, a picnic table, a charcoal grill, and a sandy area for setting up camp. Premium sites offer larger pads and better proximity to amenities. It’s one of the most budget-friendly ways to stay on Disney property – especially if you already own your gear.

Dining

Trail’s End serves up hearty faves like chicken, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes, Crockett’s Tavern offers snacks and drinks in a cozy lounge, and for something extra special, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue delivers a rollicking dinner show with all-you-care-to-enjoy fried chicken, ribs, and strawberry shortcake. The Revue has been up and running for over 50 years, and it's still a worthy destination in and of itself!

Disney World Resort: Fort Wilderness Campgrounds Horse Riding
Disney World Resort: Fort Wilderness Campgrounds Woodland Trails
Recreation & Amenities

This is where Fort Wilderness truly shines. There’s archery, fishing, horseback riding, pony rides, canoe and kayak rentals, and a nightly campfire singalong with Chip and Dale. The Meadow Swimmin’ Pool includes a waterslide and hot tub, and there are also playgrounds, walking trails, and outdoor movie nights. Many guests rent golf carts to make navigating the sprawling grounds easier – and more fun.

Transportation

Internal bus routes connect campsites to key areas like the Settlement (for dining and shows) and the Outpost (for buses to the parks). Best of all? You can take a peaceful boat ride directly to Magic Kingdom from the marina.

Best For

Campers, RV travelers, budget-savvy guests with gear, or anyone who wants a wildly different Disney experience: one that’s full of nature, nostalgia, and fresh air.

Standout Feature

No other Disney resort lets you sleep under the stars and roast marshmallows with Chip and Dale. It’s rustic, it’s weird, and it’s absolutely wonderful for the right kind of family.

5. Immersive, Iconic, Indulgent: Disney's Deluxe Resorts

Deluxe Resorts bring together Disney’s most stunning locations, immersive storytelling, and elevated experiences. Whether you’re walking distance from the parks or sipping cocktails in a rooftop lounge, these stays deliver comfort, style, and some serious magic.

If you’re dreaming of a stay that feels as unforgettable as your park days, this is where the magic scales up. With premium park access, expansive rooms, signature dining, and lush theming that often rivals the parks themselves, Deluxe Resorts are the gold standard for a reason. Let’s take a closer look at what sets each one apart.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Stunning architecture, African-inspired cuisine, and a savanna right outside your window

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge Giraffes
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge

Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of Disney’s most incredible resorts. Tucked into a quieter corner of Walt Disney World property, this Deluxe stay surrounds you with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Africa, complete with over 30 species of animals roaming the lush savannas just beyond the walking paths and balconies. It’s immersive, serene, and unlike anything else on Disney property.

Accommodations

The resort is divided into two sections: Jambo House, the grand main lodge with soaring ceilings and dramatic decor, and Kidani Village, a quieter extension. Standard rooms in both buildings feature rich wood tones, woven textures, and African-inspired motifs. Many rooms offer savanna views, where you can watch giraffes, zebras, ostriches, and more, wander past at any time of day. Club-level rooms include concierge service, and access to the Kilimanjaro Club.

Dining

This is a true culinary destination. Jiko – The Cooking Place serves upscale, regionally inspired cuisine with a serious wine list. Boma – Flavors of Africa is a beloved buffet offering dozens of African and American dishes (and the famous zebra domes). Sanaa, located at Kidani Village, offers Indian-African fusion, its rightfully famous bread service, and views of the animals as you dine. Even the quick-service spot, The Mara, offers unique options you won’t find elsewhere.

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge Pool
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge Room View
Recreation & Amenities

The Uzima Springs Pool at Jambo House is spacious and serene, with a zero-entry design and lush surroundings. Kidani Village has its own pool area, too, along with a splash zone for kids. You’ll also find cultural activities like drum circles, beadwork, and wildlife talks led by Cast Members from across Africa. The resort features two fitness centers, an arcade, and one of the most visually stunning lobbies anywhere at Disney.

Transportation

Bus service is the only form of transportation to and from this resort, but for many guests, the tradeoff is worth it for the peaceful setting and immersive experience. It’s a longer ride to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, but Animal Kingdom Park is just minutes away.

Best For

Animal lovers, foodies, and guests who want a true escape from the theme park chaos without losing an ounce of magic.

Standout Feature

The savanna. There’s nothing like sipping morning coffee on your balcony while watching a giraffe stroll by. It’s not just a place to stay – it’s a place to be.

Disney's Beach Club Resort

Old-fashioned charm with walkable luxury

Disney World Resort: Beach Club EPCOT View
Disney World Resort: Beach Club Lobby

Step into the relaxed coastal style of Disney’s Beach Club Resort, where New England seaside nostalgia meets top-tier Disney access. With its powder-blue façade and crisp white trim, Beach Club channels the easy grace of a classic summer getaway, just a short stroll from EPCOT and a boat ride from Hollywood Studios. It’s one of Disney’s most conveniently located resorts, and its laid-back luxury makes it a fan favorite for families and foodies alike.

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop is home to diner favorites and the famous Kitchen Sink sundae. For poolside eats, Hurricane Hanna’s has you covered, and quick-service options are available at Beach Club Marketplace. You’re also just steps from the Yacht Club’s Yachtsman Steakhouse and Ale & Compass, plus the EPCOT International Gateway and all the food festivals beyond.

Disney World Resort: Beach Club Pool
Disney World Resort: Beach Club Room View
Recreation & Amenities

Welcome to Stormalong Bay, the crown jewel of Disney’s resort pools. Shared with Yacht Club, it’s practically a mini water park, complete with a sand-bottom pool, lazy river, whirlpool spas, and a shipwreck waterslide. You’ll also find motorized boat rentals, fishing excursions, bike rentals, and evening campfires. The vibe is vibrant but never overwhelming: relaxation with a sea breeze.

Transportation

Beach Club guests enjoy walkable access to EPCOT and a scenic boat ride or walking path to Hollywood Studios. You’re also right next to the Disney Skyliner at the International Gateway. Bus transportation runs to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Families with park hoppers, EPCOT lovers, pool fanatics, and anyone who wants deluxe-level convenience in a breezy, casual package.

Standout Feature

Stormalong Bay. It’s hands-down the best pool complex at any Disney resort—and worth the stay on its own for water-loving kids (and grownups).

Disney's BoardWalk Inn

Turn-of-the-century charm with nightlife, nostalgia, and a postcard-perfect view

Disney World Resort: BoardWalk Entrance
Disney World Resort: BoardWalk View

BoardWalk Inn captures the charm of a 1940s Atlantic City boardwalk, complete with twinkling lights, striped awnings, and that slightly theatrical vintage vibe. Tucked along the shores of Crescent Lake and just steps from EPCOT’s International Gateway, it blends whimsy and elegance in a way that’s equal parts romantic getaway and lively hub. It’s fun, it’s walkable, and it’s got personality for days.

Accommodations

Rooms are bright and classic, with plenty of textures, white trim, and subtle nods to the resort’s vintage boardwalk aesthetic. Balconies overlook the gardens, leisure pool, or Crescent Lake, and some rooms offer views of the nighttime fireworks. Club Level rooms include access to concierge services and the Innkeeper's Club lounge.

Dining

BoardWalk’s dining scene is packed, and just as fun as its theming. Trattoria al Forno offers hearty Italian dishes for breakfast and dinner, while Flying Fish is one of Disney’s most elegant seafood restaurants. The BoardWalk Deli serves up quick bites, the Cake Bake Shop and associated table service restaurant are there for ALL of your glitter-bedazzled dining needs, and Abracadabar is a wonderful magician-themed bar & lounge for classic cocktails, that is packed with Easter eggs from top to bottom. You’re also walking distance to all of EPCOT’s World Showcase dining, and Yacht & Beach Club options just across the bridge.

Disney World Resort: BoardWalk Exterior
Disney World Resort: BoardWalk Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The Luna Park Pool features a roller coaster-themed waterslide and a vintage carnival aesthetic. You’ll also find quiet leisure pools, campfire activities, bike rentals, and evening movies. But the real standout? The BoardWalk itself, which comes alive at night with movies, games, performers, and a breezy, nostalgic atmosphere that’s unlike anything else at Walt Disney World.

Transportation

Walk to EPCOT in under five minutes or take a boat to Hollywood Studios. The International Gateway Skyliner station is nearby, and buses service Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Park-hopping foodies, or anyone who wants a walkable stay with a little vintage flair.

Standout Feature

The Crescent Lake location, steps from two parks and surrounded by dining—makes BoardWalk Inn one of the most connected and character-rich resorts on property.

Disney's Contemporary Resort

Mid-century modern, monorail cool, and steps from Magic Kingdom

Disney World Resort: Contemporary Monorail
Disney World Resort: Contemporary - Chef Mickey's

Disney’s Contemporary Resort is pure iconic energy. As one of the original Walt Disney World resorts, it’s known for its soaring A-frame design, sleek style, and the fact that (yes, really!) the monorail literally glides through the building. Just a short walk from the gates of Magic Kingdom, this is the resort for guests who want timeless design, ultimate convenience, and a front-row seat to the fireworks.

Accommodations

Rooms at the Contemporary feature crisp lines, bold color accents, and a recently updated Incredibles-inspired decor that blends mid-century modern with subtle character touches. Rooms are divided between the main tower, with sweeping park or lake views, and the Garden Wing, a quieter area just a short stroll away. Balconies offer panoramic views of Bay Lake or Cinderella Castle; hello, fireworks from your room! Club-level rooms incude concierge service, and access to the Atrium or Tower Club lounge.

Dining

The Contemporary is a food-lover’s haven. California Grill, perched atop the tower, is one of Disney’s signature dining experiences, offering upscale California cuisine with a front-row view of Magic Kingdom fireworks. Chef Mickey’s delivers a bustling, family-friendly character meal, while Steakhouse 71 (named for the resort’s opening year) serves up classic American fare in a stylish setting. The Contempo Café and Outer Rim Lounge round out your casual and grab-and-go options.

Disney World Resort: Contemporary Pool
Disney World Resort: Contemporary Atrium
Recreation & Amenities

The lakeside pool area includes a large main pool with a waterslide, a quieter secondary pool, cabana rentals, and a splash pad for little ones. Guests can also enjoy boat rentals, a fitness center, jogging trails, and arcade games.

Transportation

Walk to Magic Kingdom in under 10 minutes – no buses, no waiting. You can also glide there in style via the monorail, as well as EPCOT (via a transfer at the Transportation and Ticket Center). Buses to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs round out the offerings.

Best For

Families prioritizing Magic Kingdom access, guests who love a modern aesthetic, or anyone who wants a little "wow" factor baked into their daily routine.

Standout Feature

That walk to Magic Kingdom is a game-changer. If rope-dropping, midday breaks, and castle views from your balcony are your vibe, it doesn’t get more efficient, or more magical, than the Contemporary.

Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Victorian elegance, iconic luxury, and the ultimate in Disney refinement

Disney World Resort: Grand Floridian Overview
Disney World Resort: Grand Floridian Pool

The Grand Floridian is Disney’s flagship resort – and it shows. With its red gabled rooftops, gleaming white exterior, and opulent interiors, this Victorian-style retreat channels a timeless, turn-of-the-century glamour. But don’t let the formality fool you: this resort has heart, history, and proximity to Magic Kingdom that can’t be beat.

Accommodations

Rooms at the Grand Floridian are classically styled with soft colors, vintage patterns, and elegant furnishings, recently refreshed for a lighter, more modern feel. Views range from lush courtyards to the monorail, Seven Seas Lagoon, or even Cinderella Castle. Room types include everything from standard two-queen layouts to spacious suites. Club-level rooms are available, and include concierge service and access to the Royal Palm Club.

Dining

This resort is a true culinary destination. Victoria & Albert’s is Disney’s most acclaimed (and most luxurious) fine dining restaurant, boasting AAA Five Diamond service and its very own Michelin star. Cítricos, recently reimagined with Mary Poppins-inspired touches, offers upscale Mediterranean fare. Narcoossee’s serves fresh seafood with lagoon views, and Grand Floridian Café is a solid table-service option for casual meals. Add in the elegant Enchanted Rose Lounge and the Gasparilla Island Grill for quick bites and cocktails, and you’ve got a lineup that rivals any other resort.

Disney World Resort: Grand Floridian Room View
Disney World Resort: Grand Floridian Cafe
Recreation & Amenities

The Grand features two pools – one with a waterslide and splash zone for kids, the other a quieter courtyard pool. You’ll also find cabana rentals, a full-service spa and salon, fitness center, evening entertainment in the lobby, and more. Everything feels thoughtfully elevated, from live piano music to seasonal floral displays.

Transportation

You’re one stop away from Magic Kingdom on the monorail, or just a short boat ride or walking path across the lagoon. Monorail access also takes you to EPCOT (via transfer at the TTC), and buses serve the remaining parks.

Best For

Luxury travelers, multi-generational families celebrating something big, or guests who want Disney magic with an extra layer of polish and service.

Standout Feature

The atmosphere. From the lobby’s grand chandelier to the turn-down service and evening music, the Grand Floridian offers an experience that feels truly special, even before you head to the parks.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Tropical vibes, nostalgic charm, and one of the best views in the kingdom

Disney World Resort: Polynesian Lagoon
Disney World Resort: Polynesian Lobby

The Polynesian is a Disney classic; laid-back, lush, and just steps from Magic Kingdom. Originally opened in 1971, this resort brings island inspiration to the heart of Walt Disney World, with tiki torches, white-sand beaches, and that iconic longhouse architecture. It’s warm, it’s welcoming, and it’s a favorite for generations of Disney fans.

Accommodations

Rooms are spread across longhouses that circle the Great Ceremonial House and the Seven Seas Lagoon. Decor blends bright tropical prints with sleek modern updates, and recent refurbishments have added touches of Moana-inspired theming. Room categories range from standard two-queen layouts to lagoon and Magic Kingdom view options. Some rooms even offer direct views of the nightly fireworks. The Club-level rooms offer concierge service, plus access to the King Kamehameha Club.

Dining

This is a resort with serious food credentials. ʻOhana is famous for its family-style character breakfast with Lilo & Stitch and its beloved dinner skewers, noodles, and bread pudding. Kona Café serves up pan-Asian flavors and legendary Tonga Toast at breakfast. For quick-service options, Capt. Cook’s is a sleeper hit (try the pulled pork nachos), and Pineapple Lanai is your go-to for fresh Dole Whip. The Tambu Lounge and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto deliver island cocktails and immersive tiki bar fun – often with a wait, always with a vibe.

Disney World Resort: Polynesian Pool
Disney World Resort: Polynesian Room View
Recreation & Amenities

The Lava Pool is a hit with kids and adults alike, featuring a towering volcano slide, zero-entry access, and a great view of Cinderella Castle across the water. There’s also a quiet pool, white sand beaches, a marina with boat rentals, and lawn space for watching the fireworks. Fire pit evenings, hula lessons, and tropical landscaping make it feel like you’ve landed in a different world.

Transportation

Monorail service takes you to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (with transfer), or you can walk to the TTC for direct access to both. There’s also a lovely boat ride to Magic Kingdom and bus service to the other parks.

Best For

Families, couples, and Disney romantics looking for that perfect blend of proximity, nostalgia, and island-inspired calm.

Standout Feature

It’s the atmosphere. From the moment you hear the ukulele music in the lobby to the glow of the tiki torches at night, the Poly wraps you in warmth, and gives you fireworks on the beach to close the day.

Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Majestic forests, rustic charm, and a fireplace that could tell stories

Disney World Resort: Wilderness Lodge Entrance
Disney World Resort: Wilderness Lodge Atrium

Wilderness Lodge is one of Disney’s most atmospheric resorts – a towering, timber-framed escape inspired by the great national park lodges of the American West. Tucked into the woods near Bay Lake, it’s peaceful, warm, and rich with storytelling, from its bubbling indoor spring to the totem poles flanking the lobby. This is a Deluxe resort that feels like a retreat, without ever leaving the magic behind.

Accommodations

Rooms here are cozy and wood-toned, with lantern-style lighting and subtle nods to the wilderness theme. Views range from the courtyard and Copper Creek Falls to woodsy groves and glimpses of Bay Lake. Rooms can be slightly smaller than other Deluxe options, but the vibe is unmatched especially during the holidays, when the lobby’s massive Christmas tree makes it a seasonal destination all its own. Concierge-level rooms and service are also available here, and come with access to the Old Faithful Club.

Dining

Wilderness Lodge has something for every appetite. Story Book Dining at Artist Point welcomes Snow White, Dopey, Grumpy, and the Evil Queen to a whimsical character dining experience that feels like stepping into a fairy tale forest. Whispering Canyon Café brings big portions and big personality, with Wild West antics, sassy servers, and all-you-care-to-enjoy skillets. Geyser Point Bar & Grill, a fan-favorite open-air lounge, is perfect for sunset cocktails and elevated bar fare (those bison burgers!), and Roaring Fork is the solution for grab-and-go bites.

Disney World Resort: Wilderness Lodge Balcony View
Disney World Resort: Wilderness Lodge Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The resort’s main pool is beautifully themed, with a rockwork waterslide, multiple hot tubs disguised as natural hot springs, and waterfalls that connect to the bubbling spring inside the lobby. The serene Boulder Ridge Cove Pool is nearby and usually quieter. You’ll also find boat rentals, bike paths, campfires, and don't forget to look for the geyser (!!) that erupts hourly near the lake. Nature trails connect Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness, adding even more to explore.

Transportation

Take a boat directly to Magic Kingdom for a scenic, peaceful ride. Buses serve the other parks and Disney Springs. While there’s no monorail or Skyliner, many guests find the natural setting and Magic Kingdom boat access more than make up for it.

Best For

Nature lovers, families who want a peaceful retreat between park days, and anyone who wants that cozy lodge feel with Deluxe-level polish.

Standout Feature

As with many other Deluxe options, the star is the atmosphere. It’s warm, welcoming, and feels like you've been transported to a mountain lodge.

Disney's Yacht Club Resort

Refined nautical vibes, upscale touches, and EPCOT at your doorstep

Disney World Resort: Yacht Club Lake View
Disney World Resort: Yacht Club Lobby

Yacht Club is Beach Club’s more polished sibling – classic New England maritime style with a slightly more grown-up feel. Think navy and taupe color palettes, brass fixtures, and mahogany accents. It’s elegant but not fussy, serene but not sleepy. Located right along Crescent Lake, just steps from EPCOT, it’s one of the most convenient, and quietly luxurious, resorts on property.

Accommodations

Rooms at Yacht Club feel sophisticated and shipshape, with crisp linens, nautical accents, and subtle Disney touches. Most sleep four to five guests, and many offer water views, including direct looks across the lake to BoardWalk. Club Level service is available for added convenience and access to the Regatta Club lounge.

Dining

Yachtsman Steakhouse is one of Walt Disney World’s top spots for an elegant night out, serving expertly aged steaks and a top-tier wine list. Ale & Compass Restaurant and Lounge offers modern coastal cuisine in a sleek setting, and Market at Ale & Compass is your grab-and-go option for coffee, snacks, and light meals. Guests also have easy access to the Beach Club’s dining options, plus everything on the BoardWalk and inside EPCOT.

Disney World Resort: Yacht Club Balcony
Disney World Resort: Yacht Club Room View
Recreation & Amenities

Like Beach Club, Yacht Club shares access to Stormalong Bay, the sprawling pool complex that includes a lazy river, massive waterslide, and sandy-bottom pool. You’ll also find tennis courts, motorized boat rentals, fishing excursions, and movies under the stars. The vibe is polished and calm, ideal for guests who love activity options but also crave relaxation.

Transportation

Walk to EPCOT in under five minutes, or take the Friendship Boat to Hollywood Studios. The International Gateway Skyliner station is nearby, and buses are available to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Couples, convention-goers, or families with older kids who want a Deluxe experience that’s upscale without being over-the-top – and incredibly close to the action.

Standout Feature

The proximity to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, paired with access to the best pool on property, makes Yacht Club one of Disney’s most effortlessly convenient stays.

✨ In the mood for a Deluxe vacation?

Whether you’re craving a castle view or you want more room to spread out, we’ll help you choose the Disney World resort that fits just right.

6. Relaxing, Roomy, Refined: Disney's Deluxe Villas

Deluxe Villas offer all the perks of a Deluxe Resort – plus the space, flexibility, and home-like comforts of a vacation rental. Studios, one-bedroom, and multi-bedroom options make them ideal for larger families, longer stays, or anyone who wants the freedom of extra room (and maybe a kitchen with a view).

Some Deluxe Villas are part of their own standalone resort (like Riviera or Saratoga Springs), while others share amenities, theming, and location with a nearby Deluxe resort, essentially acting as a more spacious wing of the main property. For those, we won’t rehash everything already covered above – instead, we’ll focus on what makes the Villa experience unique: room types, layout differences, added perks, and anything that stands out compared to the standard hotel side.

Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

Modern luxury, Magic Kingdom views, and the sleek side of Disney Deluxe

Disney World Resort: Bay Lake Tower
Disney World Resort: Bay Lake Tower Living Room

Bay Lake Tower is the villa counterpart to Disney’s Contemporary Resort—and while it shares amenities, dining, and proximity with its A-frame sibling, it has a more modern, residential vibe all its own. Connected to the main tower by a covered walkway, this sleek, glass-fronted building feels like a calm retreat after a day in the parks, without sacrificing a single bit of convenience.

Accommodations

Studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom Grand Villas are available, all with clean-lined decor, modern lighting, and spacious layouts. Most units include full kitchens, in-room laundry, and private balconies, some with views of the Magic Kingdom or the sparkling waters of Bay Lake. Fireworks-view rooms here are legendary, especially from upper floors.

Dining

Guests have access to all the Contemporary’s restaurants, including California Grill, Steakhouse 71, and Chef Mickey’s, plus in-room dining options. Bay Lake Tower also features its own Top of the World Lounge – A Villains Lair, an exclusive space for eligible Disney Vacation Club members, offering craft cocktails, small bites, and an unbeatable fireworks view from the rooftop.

Disney World Resort: Bay Lake Tower Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Bay Lake Tower Steakhouse 71
Recreation & Amenities

Bay Lake Tower has its own private pool and splash area, quieter and more relaxed than the Contemporary’s main pool. Guests also enjoy full access to the Contemporary’s fitness center, marina, and recreation options, including boat rentals, movies under the stars, and lakeside paths.

Transportation

Walk to Magic Kingdom in under ten minutes, or take the monorail from the main tower there or to EPCOT. Buses serve Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Families who want space, modern style, and fast access to Magic Kingdom, and guests looking for a quieter, more refined version of the Contemporary experience.

Standout Feature

The rooftop lounge and those fireworks views. Bay Lake Tower makes it easy to end every night on a high note.

Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Rustic comfort, forest trails, and a quieter kind of magic

Disney World Resort: Boulder Ridge Pool
Disney World Resort: Boulder Ridge Bedroom

Tucked beside the main Wilderness Lodge building, Boulder Ridge Villas offer a cozy, wooded escape and continue that atmosphere of a historic national park lodge. With its Craftsman-era styling and serene location, Boulder Ridge feels like a peaceful hideaway, but with full access to all the amenities of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge just steps away.

Accommodations

Boulder Ridge includes deluxe studios as well as one- and two-bedroom villas. These units have a warm, rustic vibe with dark woods, vintage-inspired textiles, and subtle nods to America’s early railroads. Villas include kitchenettes or full kitchens, in-room laundry, and private balconies. The charm and quiet make it a fan favorite for guests who want relaxation over trendiness.

Dining

Guests have full access to the Wilderness Lodge dining lineup: Story Book Dining at Artist Point, Whispering Canyon Café, Geyser Point Bar & Grill, and Roaring Fork.

Disney World Resort: Boulder Ridge Living Room
Disney World Resort: Boulder Ridge Bathroom
Recreation & Amenities

While guests can enjoy both pools at Wilderness Lodge, Boulder Ridge is closest to the Boulder Ridge Cove Pool, a quieter, more secluded option with ample lounge space and a laid-back feel. Guests can also join in campfire activities, movies under the stars, bike rentals, and nature trails that wind toward Fort Wilderness.

Transportation

Boat service to Magic Kingdom is a major perk, especially for a resort this tranquil. Buses are available to all other parks and Disney Springs.

Best For

Guests who want a quiet retreat with access to Deluxe amenities, families who prefer a separate living space, or anyone drawn to rustic lodge vibes and long pine-scented walkways.

Standout Feature

The peaceful location and storybook atmosphere. Boulder Ridge feels like a secret corner of Disney that most people overlook – until they stay there once and fall in love.

Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Timber elegance, modern comfort, and lakefront luxury with a woodsy soul

Disney World Resort: Copper Creek Lake View
Disney World Resort: Copper Creek Cabin

Copper Creek blends the cozy spirit of Wilderness Lodge with upscale, contemporary design. Attached to the main lodge building, these villas and stand-alone cabins offer updated interiors, premium amenities, and a deep sense of place, making it feel both like a stylish mountain retreat and a fully integrated part of the magic.

Accommodations

You’ll find everything from deluxe studios to one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas, as well as standalone Cascade Cabins that line the shores of Bay Lake. The design is clean and modern but still warm, with wood textures, stone accents, and deep earth tones. Villas include full kitchens and in-room laundry, while the cabins offer private porches, screened-in plunge pools, and two bedrooms with ample space to stretch out.

Dining

As part of the main Wilderness Lodge complex, guests here enjoy easy access to all of its dining options: Whispering Canyon Café, Story Book Dining at Artist Point, Geyser Point Bar & Grill, and Roaring Fork for quick meals. With a full kitchen in your villa or cabin, it’s also easy to prepare your own meals or snacks during downtime.

Disney World Resort: Copper Creek Grand Villa
Disney World Resort: Copper Creek Bathroom
Recreation & Amenities

Guests can enjoy both of Wilderness Lodge’s pools: the main Copper Creek Springs Pool with a waterslide and hot tub, and the more secluded Boulder Ridge Cove Pool nearby. Nature trails, bike rentals, evening campfires, and lakeside activities (including motorized boat rentals) round out the offerings. Cabins also include exclusive access to private grills and outdoor relaxation spaces.

Transportation

Magic Kingdom is just a scenic boat ride away, and buses service the other parks and Disney Springs. It’s not monorail or Skyliner-connected, but the peaceful commute is part of the charm.

Best For

Families or groups who want a little more luxury in a natural setting, couples looking for a peaceful retreat, or anyone ready to splurge on a cabin that feels like a wilderness dream.

Standout Feature

The lakeside cabins. With their private porches, hot tubs, and unbeatable sunsets, they’re one of the most unique and serene accommodations anywhere at Walt Disney World.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House

Stunning views, immersive design, and wildlife just outside your window

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House - Savanna View
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House Living Room

Jambo House is the original lodge at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort, and home to a portion of the Animal Kingdom Villas. Staying here feels like stepping into a luxury safari lodge, with soaring thatched ceilings, carved woodwork, and views of real African wildlife roaming the savanna. It’s as immersive as Disney gets: perfect for guests who want something extraordinary both inside and outside the parks.

Accommodations

Studios and villas here are richly decorated, with dark wood furniture, African-inspired textiles, and warm earth tones. Many units include full kitchens, in-room laundry, and private balconies, some overlooking the savanna, where giraffes, zebras, and gazelles wander by. The vibe is cozy and transportive, with room types ranging from deluxe studios to three-bedroom Grand Villas.

Dining

Jambo House is home to Boma – Flavors of Africa, one of the most beloved buffets at Walt Disney World, serving a mix of African and American cuisine with bold spices and big flavor. The Mara offers quick-service options with more variety than most food courts, and Victoria Falls Lounge is a serene spot for drinks overlooking the lobby. Guests can also dine at Sanaa in nearby Kidani Village.

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Jambo House Balcony View
Recreation & Amenities

The Uzima Springs Pool features a zero-entry design, pool bar, and a lush, tropical vibe. Cultural experiences like beadwork crafts, drumming, and animal education stations are a highlight here, with Cast Members from across Africa sharing stories and traditions. The lodge also has a fitness center, arcade, and breathtaking lobby that’s a destination in its own right.

Transportation

Bus service only, but you’re just minutes from Animal Kingdom Park, and many guests say the peaceful seclusion is well worth the trade-off.

Best For

Families, animal lovers, and guests looking for a unique Disney experience with a true sense of adventure.

Standout Feature

The savanna views. Watching wildlife roam from your balcony is a magical start (or end) to any Disney day.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village

Spacious villas, cultural depth, and the best bread service on property

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Firepit
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Lobby

Kidani Village is the quieter, more residential side of Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, and it’s a hidden gem for guests who want extra space, serene surroundings, and up-close animal views without the buzz of a busy lobby. Located just down the road from Jambo House (with walking paths and shuttle service between them), Kidani is a dedicated villa resort that feels like a boutique lodge built for relaxing and reconnecting.

Accommodations

Studios and multi-bedroom villas here are among the most spacious at Walt Disney World. Decor follows the same earthy, African-inspired palette as Jambo House, but layouts here often include larger living areas, extra bathrooms, and generous balconies, many with savanna views. Full kitchens and in-room laundry make this especially popular for longer stays.

Dining

Kidani’s culinary centerpiece is Sanaa, a table-service restaurant known for its bold flavors and panoramic window views of the savanna. The Indian-style bread service with accompaniments is iconic, and the menu features a blend of African and Indian cuisine. Guests also have access to all dining options at Jambo House, just a short walk or shuttle away.

Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Living Room
Disney World Resort: Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Bathroom
Recreation & Amenities

The Samawati Springs Pool is a guest favorite: smaller and more tucked away than the main lodge’s pool, but featuring a 128-foot waterslide, a zero-entry design, and a large splash play area for little ones. There’s also a fitness center, community hall with games and activities, and frequent cultural programs hosted by Cast Members.

Transportation

Like Jambo House, Kidani offers bus service to all parks and Disney Springs. Though it’s farther from most theme parks, the tranquility and immersive atmosphere often make it feel like a vacation within a vacation.

Best For

Larger families, repeat visitors who want a slower pace, or anyone who values spacious rooms and authentic, enriching details.

Standout Feature

The villa layouts. If you’re traveling with a group or simply want more space to spread out, Kidani delivers comfort without sacrificing magic.

Disney's Beach Club Villas

Seaside charm, unbeatable pool access, and steps from EPCOT

Disney World Resort: Beach Club Villa Lake View
Disney World Resort: Beach Club Villa Kitchen

Connected to the main Beach Club Resort by a breezeway, Disney’s Beach Club Villas are the best of both worlds: the relaxed, nautical vibe of the resort with the space and flexibility of a Deluxe Villa stay. With access to all the Beach & Yacht Club amenities and that EPCOT-side location, this is one of the most convenient villa properties on Disney property—especially for guests who love to park-hop, pool-hop, or both.

Accommodations

Studios and one- and two-bedroom villas are available, with soft coastal colors, white wood trim, and beachy décor. Most include a balcony, and larger units offer full kitchens and in-room laundry. The villa wing is compact and calm, making it feel more like a quiet beach house retreat than a sprawling resort.

Dining

Guests have access to all Beach Club dining: character breakfasts and seafood buffets at Cape May Café, indulgent sundaes at Beaches & Cream, and grab-and-go fare at Beach Club Marketplace. Yacht Club dining is just next door, and EPCOT’s World Showcase is a five-minute walk away for guests looking to turn snack credits into a small plates world tour.

Disney World Resort: Beach Club Villa Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Beach Club Villa Pool
Recreation & Amenities

Let’s be honest: you’re probably here for Stormalong Bay – and for good reason. Beyond the pool, guests enjoy all resort amenities, including campfires, boat rentals, and nightly movies under the stars.

Transportation

Walk to EPCOT in under five minutes, boat to Hollywood Studios, and grab the Skyliner from the nearby International Gateway. Bus service is available to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

EPCOT fans, couples who want a quieter villa stay with Deluxe-level perks, or families looking to blend relaxation and convenience.

Recreation & Amenities

There’s a quiet pool tucked behind the villas, and a larger leisure pool with a waterslide themed to a classic wooden roller coaster. The BoardWalk itself adds a ton of atmosphere: jugglers, magicians, and midway games bring a lively vibe, especially in the evening. You’ll also find bike rentals, surrey bikes, and waterside activities.

Transportation

Walk or boat to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios; take the Skyliner from International Gateway if you want to connect to other resorts. Buses run to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Guests who want a livelier atmosphere, families with older kids or teens, and anyone looking to blend Deluxe convenience with a more playful edge.

Standout Feature

That location. The BoardWalk offers EPCOT access and built-in entertainment, so your evening plans are always just a few steps away.

Disney's Old Key West Resort

Spacious villas, laid-back vibes, and the charm of classic Florida Keys

Disney World Resort: Old Key West Docks
Disney World Resort: Old Key West - Olivia's

Old Key West was the very first Disney Vacation Club resort – and that comes with both benefits and drawbacks. Everything here is calm, spread out, and full of sunshine, from the pastel façades to the swaying palm trees and golf course views. With some of the biggest rooms on Disney property, it’s a favorite for families who want breathing room and breezy charm.

That said, it’s a bit of a time capsule. The vibe is relaxed, but some rooms feel dated, and the sprawl between buildings can make getting around a little trickier, especially if you’re relying on buses or hauling groceries back to your villa.

Accommodations

Studios and one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas are available, and they’re big. Larger units include full kitchens, laundry, and multiple bathrooms, ideal for longer stays or larger families. Decor is light and tropical, with soft blues, wicker furniture, and subtle beachy touches. Many units have private balconies or patios overlooking the water or golf course.

Dining

Olivia’s Café is a hidden gem here: Southern comfort food with a coastal twist (don’t sleep on the banana bread pudding). Quick-service and poolside bites are available from Goods Food to Go and Turtle Shack, with groceries and snacks at the Conch Flats General Store if you’re cooking in your villa.

Disney World Resort: Old Key West Grand Villa
Disney World Resort: Old Key West Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The main Sandcastle Pool features a waterslide, a lighthouse-shaped sauna, and a playground area. There are also three quieter leisure pools throughout the resort. You’ll find tennis courts, a fitness center, bike rentals, and a scenic walking path that connects to Disney Springs. Bonus: the resort is also home to a golf course and has its own internal shuttle loop due to its size.

Transportation

Buses serve all parks, and a relaxing boat ride takes you to Disney Springs. It’s not the most centrally located resort, but if calm and quiet are your top priorities, it’s a great trade.

Best For

Families who want space and self-sufficiency, fans of a relaxed vacation pace, or guests planning longer stays who’ll really use the villa features.

Standout Feature

The space. Even the studios are roomier than most, and the one-bedroom villas feel more like a condo than a hotel room.

Disney's Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

Island vibes, waterfront stays, and an iconic monorail address

Disney World Resort: Polynesian Tower
Disney World Resort: Polynesian Tower Living Room

Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows bring the aloha spirit to life in a relaxed, luxurious way. Blending tropical charm with convenient access to Magic Kingdom, these villas are part of the legendary Polynesian Village Resort, but with added space, privacy, and flexibility. And now, with the addition of the brand-new Island Tower, the villa offerings here just got even more expansive.

Accommodations

The original villas are located in the Moorea, Tokelau, and Pago Pago longhouses – converted buildings near the main resort. They include deluxe studios with split (i.e., two) bathrooms and plenty of storage, perfect for families. Just steps away from the beach, many units offer water or fireworks views.

The Bungalows are the showstoppers: luxurious overwater accommodations with two bedrooms, full kitchens, plunge pools, and private views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom fireworks. They’re beautiful, private, and incredibly convenient – but priced accordingly.

Just opened in December 2024, the Island Tower offers even more villa options, including new room types in a gorgeous new structure along the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon. The tower features fresh architecture, updated amenities, and more availability for guests looking to stay in the heart of the action. Polynesian style....but make it modern.

Dining

You’ll have access to all of the Polynesian Village Resort’s dining options—ʻOhana, Kona Café, and Captain Cook’s, plus the iconic Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto for immersive tiki cocktails and snacks. The Island Tower features a new dining option in the Wailulu Bar & Grill, a waterfront option with breathtaking lagoon and fireworks views, a first-of-its-kind all-electric kitchen, and a menu celebrating Polynesian flavors from across the Pacific.

Disney World Resort: Polynesian Tower Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Polynesian Tower Lobby
Recreation & Amenities

Enjoy two pools: the feature pool with a volcano slide and splash area featuring Moana on her canoe, and a quieter leisure pool tucked away for a more relaxing swim. Beachside views, torch-lit paths, and movies under the stars add to the ambiance. Monorail views, boat access, and that unique Polynesian styling make even the walkways feel like vacation.

Transportation

Monorail service to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (via transfer at TTC), boats to Magic Kingdom, and buses to the other parks and Disney Springs. Walking distance to the Transportation & Ticket Center makes this one of the best-connected resorts on property.

Best For

Families who want a classic Disney experience with upscale touches, couples looking for a romantic stay with serious wow factor, or anyone who wants that "stay on the monorail loop" magic with extra space.

Standout Feature

The Bungalows are unforgettable, but even the standard villas deliver comfort and location with tropical flair. And with the new Island Tower expanding capacity, it’s never been easier to make this iconic resort part of your stay.

Disney's Riviera Resort

European elegance, modern luxury, and Skyliner convenience

Disney World Resort: Riviera Resort Entrance
Disney World Resort: Riviera Resort Living Room

Inspired by Walt Disney’s travels through Europe, Disney’s Riviera Resort is a stunning blend of French and Italian Riviera style, Mediterranean architecture, and modern Disney storytelling. As one of the newest resorts on property – and a standalone Deluxe Villa offering – it combines the upscale vibe of a boutique hotel with the practicality and space of a villa stay. Everything here is polished, peaceful, and packed with detail.

Accommodations

Riviera offers deluxe studios, one- and two-bedroom villas, and grand three-bedroom options, with full kitchens, washers and dryers, and balconies in most layouts. The decor is crisp and modern: think marble-style surfaces, art nouveau details, soft blues and golds, and charming Disney touches through curated artwork and design. Riviera also introduced Tower Studios – intimate, efficient rooms designed for two, with a pull-down queen bed and smart layout, ideal for couples or solo travelers.

Dining

This resort is home to one of the best dining lineups at Walt Disney World. Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera offers a signature rooftop dinner with fireworks views and a character breakfast featuring Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Donald in artsy European outfits. Bar Riva is an open-air bar with Mediterranean small plates, and Le Petit Café serves pastries and cocktails in a charming lobby setting. Even the quick-service option, Primo Piatto, is a step above. Plus, Riviera shares a shoreline with the Caribbean Beach Resort, so you're only a short walk from dinner at Sebastian's Bistro as well.

Disney World Resort: Riviera Resort Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Riviera Resort Pool
Recreation & Amenities

The Riviera pool scene includes a family-friendly feature pool with a water slide and a stellar splash pad, plus a serene quiet pool tucked into a garden courtyard. Guests can enjoy bocce ball, an outdoor chess board, a well-equipped fitness center, and movies under the stars. The entire resort is wrapped in art and storytelling, from mosaic murals to custom gallery spaces.

Transportation

Direct access to the Disney Skyliner means you’re a quick ride away from EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Bus service is available for Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs.

Best For

Couples, small families, or anyone who wants a luxurious, grown-up vibe with easy park access. Especially great for EPCOT lovers and guests who appreciate refined theming.

Standout Feature

That rooftop view. Whether you’re dining at Topolino’s or just watching the sunset, Riviera’s skyline magic is unmatched.

Equestrian charm, spa-day vibes, and a peaceful perch near Disney Springs

Disney World Resort: Saratoga Springs Grounds
Disney World Resort: Saratoga Springs Kitchen

Dining

The Artist’s Palette is the main quick-service location, with flatbreads, salads, and snacks. The Turf Club Bar and Grill offers table-service dinner in a relaxed, country-club atmosphere, and On the Rocks pool bar serves drinks and small plates. Having Disney Springs just a walking path (or boat ride) away is a huge plus for foodies.

Disney World Resort: Saratoga Springs Bedroom
Disney World Resort: Saratoga Springs Pool
Recreation & Amenities

With five pools, a spa, tennis courts, bike rentals, golf access, and tons of open green space, Saratoga’s amenities lean toward wellness and leisure. The Senses Spa offers massages and treatments, and there are multiple playgrounds and jogging trails throughout the resort.

Transportation

Buses to all parks; boat or walking path to Disney Springs. Because of the resort’s size, there’s also an internal shuttle loop.

Best For

Longer stays, guests who want extra room or privacy, and anyone looking for a more relaxed, wellness-style vacation.

The location near Disney Springs, plus the unique Treehouse Villas for guests who want cabin-in-the-woods vibes with Disney perks.

The Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort

Accommodations

Each cabin sleeps up to six and includes a full kitchen, dedicated bedroom with a queen bed and twin bunk beds, a pull-down Murphy bed in the living area, and a private deck with picnic table and grill. The interiors are fresh and modern with subtle Disney touches, but the vibe remains solidly “national park rustic.” Bonus: dog-friendly cabins available!

Disney World Resort: Cabins Interior
Disney World Resort: Cabins Horseback Riding
Recreation & Amenities

Transportation

Boat service to Magic Kingdom and bus access to all other parks. Golf cart rentals are highly recommended for getting around the campground!

Best For

Families who want more space and independence, guests craving a nature-meets-Disney vibe, or anyone traveling with pets.

Standout Feature

It’s like staying in a cabin in the woods, with Magic Kingdom just a boat ride away.

7. So...Which Disney World Resort Is Right for You?

Choosing your Walt Disney World resort isn’t just about price or proximity – it’s about what kind of vacation you want. Do you want to wake up to the sound of animals outside your window? Step onto a monorail bound for Magic Kingdom? Sip sangria by the pool while your kids explore a pirate ship-themed splash pad?

Here are a few questions we always ask when helping families choose their resort:

  • How much time will you actually spend at the resort?
If you’re planning to rope drop and close the parks every day, you might not need deluxe bells and whistles. If you want slower mornings, pool afternoons, or mid-day breaks, those extra amenities may really shine.
  • Who are you traveling with?
Kid-heavy trips might prioritize space to spread out (hello, bunk beds and kitchenettes). Adults-only trips might focus more on dining, spa time, or location near EPCOT. Multigenerational travel? Think elevators, walkability, and comfort for all energy levels.
  • Which park are you most excited about?
If Magic Kingdom is the priority, monorail resorts and bus access are key. EPCOT or Hollywood Studios? Skyliner resorts make a huge difference. Want to be near Animal Kingdom? There’s one clear winner.
  • What kind of vacationer are you?
Do you want to relax and recharge between adventures, or are you go-go-go and just need a good shower and a bed? That will shape how much you value pools, dining, ambiance, and room upgrades.
  • What’s your “worth it” factor?
Everyone has something that tips the scales. Maybe that’s walkable access to EPCOT and a good espresso. Maybe it’s bunk beds, poolside pizza, and character waffles. Maybe it’s the most outrageous fireworks-view balcony you’ve ever booked. Knowing your top priority can help narrow the list fast.

From bold and budget-friendly to luxe and laid-back, each resort tells its own story. And the best one for your family is the one that fits your rhythm, your style, and your version of what makes a trip feel magical.

However you answer the questions above, there’s a Disney resort that will feel just right!
